Democratised by time,
pain and joy are not always distinguishable.
Like living in a space too small,
they are both easily bruised.
Month: July 2015
You hold me without touch
Like a rainbow
navigating its way through my softness.
A path with heart leads nowhere…
It doesn’t have to
I fell overboard
Maybe I was pushed?
Maybe I jumped?
It does not matter
how it came to be.
I fell overboard…
I was drowning
and you were the sea.
Falling into your gravity
Our skin collided
swallowing my scars,
until I could no longer see
where I had been…
Sleeping on the edge
Now isn’t simply now,
it is just a reminder.
Of the days,
when
I can’t see the future.
Of the days,
when
for a few brief seconds,
the silence
drowns out the noise.
Of the days,
when
waking up hurts.
Travel lighter
Baggage… that stuff we carry around with us and not just on planes and trains. We all have it – stuff that sort of invisibly moves around with us. It is amazing how this invisible stuff affects our decisions and sometimes even those of the people around us. Baggage is the psychological bilge that weighs us down and stops us from moving forward. It (this baggage stuff) can get heavy if we don’t periodically jettison a little of it overboard.
Of course some people spend years expertly stowing their luggage in the cargo bay, perhaps hoping that out of sight is out of mind. I have discovered that never seems to last – a bit like a hibernating bear, I just know, that one day it is going to emerge hungrier than ever!
Like all of us, I have luggage that gets heavy, so I attempt to seasonally toss out the excess … always with the intention of travelling with just a carry-on.The fact remains, that it easy to use our ‘baggage stories’ as an excuse for our lack of whatever it is, that propels the rest of the world forward. We all have stories that shape who we are, but those ‘stories’ can only define us if we allow them to.
I admit, I remain a work in progress, but the mere process of understanding what weighs me down, is a step in the right direction. We may not be able to rewrite our beginning – but we can certainly choose how big our suitcase needs to be, so we can travel lighter and maybe in the process write our own ending… anyway that’s my plan.
